About Me

Designing across materials, systems and ideas.

Simone Soffiato

Some paths can’t be explained by a single profession.

Simone began as an artisan, immersed in the light and dust of Murano’s glass furnaces. It wasn’t just a job – it was a way of shaping the world with his hands, of listening to what the glass wanted to become.
But true artistry doesn’t stay still. It transforms.

Over time, that same gesture evolved into design. The precision once used to carve glass became code, simulation, fine mechanics. From the furnace to the flight simulator. From pigments to LEDs.
It wasn’t a leap – it was an evolution.
No longer just an artisan: now a creator of systems, experiences, and environments.

That evolution led to Skyglass 2.0
a new creative and technical studio, where aesthetics meet functionality, history blends with technology, and every project bridges what was and what’s to come.

This isn’t a résumé.
It’s a trajectory.
And everything he builds – a site, a lighting piece, a digital system – carries the mark of that journey.

AREAS OF EXPERTISE

Hybrid thinking across physical and digital domains.

Tech Design

My interest in mechanical design and mechatronic systems came from necessity—not theory. Working on complex installations like flight simulators and motion platforms required me to learn CAD modeling, electronics, firmware, and 3D printing. Over time, I developed an integrated skill set to design both physical and digital systems from scratch. From kinetic light installations to fully functional prototypes, I bridge ideation and execution with technical rigor and creative freedom. Every project became a challenge to turn abstract concepts into working, tangible machines.

➡️ Skills & Tools: Fusion 360, ArtCam, AutoCAD, Arduino, ESP32, Raspberry Pi, stepper motors, servos, actuators, FDM 3D printing (Prusa, Creality), prototyping, motion logic.

CREATIVE WORK

These skills didn’t come from a traditional creative background—but from a practical need: to create and grow murano-store.com, an independent e-commerce platform dedicated to Murano artistic glass. Launched in 2008, when few believed in online sales for artisan products, the site was one of the first of its kind alongside pioneers like murrina.it and AbauBiglass. Since then, I’ve managed every aspect: platform architecture, SEO, content writing, products, brand positioning. Over 15 years of hands-on experience—learning how to tell the story of craftsmanship through modern digital tools.

➡️ Skills & Tools: WordPress, PrestaShop, on-page SEO, technical copywriting, content curation, social media management, Google Analytics, performance tools.

Problem Solving

Troubleshooting, restoration, and practical solutions—built from years of hands-on work, both on-site and remote. Over time, I’ve become the go-to person for clients facing technical issues, from optimizing digital setups to solving hardware and software conflicts. But this attitude goes beyond electronics: in the world of Murano glass, I often assist with repairs, offer advice on restoration strategies, and help translate vague ideas into real, feasible products. Whether it’s fixing a broken chandelier arm or supporting a custom installation, I merge technical precision with artisanal insight.

➡️ Skills & Tools: remote assistance, firmware debugging, troubleshooting, restoration strategy, repair guidance, customer support, feasibility analysis, client communication.

Project OPS

Managing a project means knowing when to lead and when to step back. Over the years, I’ve coordinated complex work across artisan, technical, and digital fields—from custom production to assembly, including supplier management and international shipping. I’ve learned to navigate setbacks, shifting priorities, and last-minute changes while keeping control over timing, costs, and quality. Every project is a balance between creativity and execution, and my approach is always results-driven—even in unstable contexts or with limited resources. No Theory, just results.

➡️ Skills & Tools: operational planning, supplier coordination, client management, quality control, logistics and shipping, B2B relationships, hands-on execution, problem solving.
